New Phoenix Ensemble has created a new avant-garde trio program exclusively dedicated to female composers: “DONNE!”

DONNE is dedicated exclusively to female composers who during their lifetime have been in the shadow of male artists of their time and to composers who were not only extraordinary artists, but who also had an impact on 19th and 20th century society.

Among these, Louise Farrenc stands out: the first music publisher who promoted and sold her works as well as the first piano teacher at the CNSM in Paris; Germaine Tailleferre who was the only woman of the group of 6 and a free artistic muse for Ravel, Cocteau and Charlie Chaplin and the suffragette later named Dama Ethel Smyth.

Thanks to the project, New Phoenix Ensemble is part of Rete.Donne: an important corporation of Italian professional women in Europe.

Two settings are possible:

-Trio with piano, clarinet and cello;

-Trio clarinet, viola / violin and cello

DONNE is a program that can also be declined as:

PUCCINI 2024 - 100 Years Anniversary

New Phoenix Ensemble, together with the double-bassist and composer Valentina Ciardelli,

propose a concert program around Giacomo Puccini and the “Opera Without Words”

with the voices of the clarinet, cello, piano and double-bass.

“How I Met Puccini” is a concert program with an augmented performance concept.

Adapting Puccini's poetics to modern language without betraying its essence, How I Met Puccini wants to amuse and excite opera and classical music audience as well as bring new generations closer to the classical music stage. How I Met Puccini is a unique 360-degree project that combines different forms of art and communication like illustration, performance, and augmented reality.

It has been on stage since December 2021 with the official launch of chamber music season in the Puccini Days in Lucca. What does connect the Opera Without Words and the Parody? OPERA meets BURLESQUE!

The concert program presents the most hilarious Trios by Mozart, together with burlesque where the serious is treated lightly and the frivolous seriously: that's the case for the trios by Nino Rota and Germaine Tailleferre, and the circus style music by Poulenc sonata, or the caricature-like trio by Leone Sinigaglia.

Two settings are possible:

The Concert Program about the Shoah and the Composers of the Resistance during WW2.

New Phoenix Ensemble collaborates with various organizations, including the "Leo Smit" Foundation in Amsterdam, for which they have recorded pieces from the composer's suite.

Thanks precisely to the support of the "Leo Smit" Foundation, which deals with the recovery and dissemination of what they call "the forgotten composers", New Phoenix Ensemble began a research and a double job: performing the music of composers tragically killed during the Shoah but at the same time celebrating their life, adding them in the programs of usual composers: HAIM, which means Life in Hebrew.

This project sees collaboration with institutions and realities of the highest value.

The HAIM program came to the knowledge of the Dutch Jewish Community, which invited us to perform at the ceremony of the Official Commemoration at the most important place  which was Hollandse Schouwburg Amsterdam, as well as in concert in the Liberal Synagogue also in Amsterdam.

On the occasion of the 77th Day of Remembrance for the Resistance in the Netherlands for the Oranjehotel National Monument, the New Phoenix Ensemble collective was invited to contribute by presenting the composers of the HAIM program, together with the Presidents of Parliament and the Minister of Human and Social Rights.

Jaarlijks vindt een Herdenking plaats

During the week of Remembrance in January 2021, we had the honor of performing at the Oranjehotel: the prison used in the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation for political prisoners and Jews.

We recorded two pieces by Erwin Schulhoff and a doctor who was imprisoned in 1942 and composed an aria whose score was recovered by one of his descendants:

J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations exceptionally interpreted by the clarinet, viola and cello

J.S. Bach represents the ideal synthesis of Italian, French and German musical genres and styles: for this reason he can be defined as the father of European Musical Culture.

Around Goldberg Variations are presented musical pieces by composers of different nationalities: the English suffragist Dame Ethel Smyth, the Dutch Shoah survivor Rosy Wertheim, the Italian virtuoso Anna Bon and the French composer of the Front National de Musicians Claude Arrieu.

“Aimez-vous Bach?” it was performed on various institutional occasions and concert seasons in Italy and Europe: the Inauguration of the Italian Floral Expo in the Italian Pavillon on the initiative of the Italian Embassy in the Netherlands, “Incontri Europei con la Musica” in Bergamo, Barco Teatro concerts serie in Padua and at the “Citizen's Garden Concerts” at the European Parliament.
