How it started

After completing their Master Studies in Rotterdam, the Italian Clarinetist Letizia Maulá and the Italian-German Cellist Sylvia Cempini founded in 2018 New Phoenix Ensemble.

Starting as piano trio, soon it grew as a collective of International Musicians based in The Netherlands, Germany and Italy.

Why Phoenix?

The name Phoenix is evocative to the city of Rotterdam which was destroyed during the WW2 and then rebuilt into a beautiful and dynamic city. The name also concerns the aim of introducing compositions by unknown and forgotten composers into our repertoire, and therefore bringing them back to life.

New Phoenix Ensemble is a new concept of music making, having multiple possibilities but being always one: duo clarinet and cello, trio clarinet violin/viola and cello, duo violin and cello, trio clarinet, cello and piano.
